What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is a system used by the Canadian Government to select applicants who qualify under three program, primarily:

  • Federal Skilled Worker
  • Canadian Experience Class
  • Federal Skilled Trades

The system is now in its 6th year in welcoming skilled immigrations who are interested in immigrating to Canada. The Canadian government aims to process Express Entry applications in 6 months from submission and thus has one of the fastest Permanent application processing times in Canada.

Interested candidates are assessed on six selection factor but not limited to their:

  • Age
  • Education
  • Language Proficiency
  • Work Experience
  • Valid job offer
  • Adaptability (how well you are likely to settle in Canada)

Comprehensive Ranking System – Is used by IRCC to determine a candidate’s position in the Express Entry Pool. It ranks interested in skilled immigrants by assigning points to their current/previous work history, language ability, education, age etc.

Demand for Express Entry – Canada’s federal government plans to welcome around 1 million immigrants over the next three years. Roughly half of these new immigrants will immigrate through the Express Entry system.

Federal Skilled Worker

You may qualify under this stream, If you score 67 points or higher and full fill below Minimum requirements:

  • Minimum one year of full-time equivalent work experience in the last year in one of the following  Job groups:
    • Managerial jobs (skill type 0)
    • Professional jobs (skill level A)
    • Technical jobs and skilled trades (skill level B)
  • Minimum language skills of CLB 7
  • Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) of your Education
  • Proof of funds 

Canadian Experience Class

You may qualify under this stream, If you score 67 points or higher and full fill below Minimum requirements:

  • Minimum one year of Canadian full-time equivalent work experience in the last 3 year in one of the following  Job groups:
    • Managerial jobs (skill type 0)
    • Professional jobs (skill level A)
    • Technical jobs and skilled trades (skill level B)
  • Minimum language level of:
    • CLB 7 for NOC O and A jobs
    • CLB 5 for NOC B jobs
  • Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) of your Education
  • Proof of funds *

* Exemptions candidate is exempt from this requirement unless, are currently authorized to work in Canada, OR have a valid job offer from an employer in Canada

 

Federal Skilled Trades

You may qualify under this stream, If you full fill below Minimum requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of full-time equivalent work experience in the last 5 years in Skill Trade.
  • Meet the job requirement for the skilled trade as per Federal or Provincial policies*
  • Minimum language level of:
    • Speaking and listening CLB5
    • Reading and writing CLB 4
  • have a: 
    • valid job offer of full-time employment for a total period of at least 1 year
    • certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial, territorial or federal authority
  • Proof of funds**

* Education assessment is not a requirement  But an important factor if you want to improve your rank in the Express Entry pool.

** Candidate is exempt from this requirement unless, are currently authorized to work in Canada, OR  have a valid job offer from an employer in Canada.
